Pennsylvania Retina Specialists is seeking an experienced, highly organized Clinical Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our ophthalmic technician department across multiple locations.
This position plays a critical leadership role within a fast-paced retinal specialty practice and is responsible for supporting clinic operations, physician efficiency, staff development, patient experience, and operational consistency throughout the organization. The ideal candidate is a strong operational leader who can effectively balance clinical knowledge, staff accountability, workflow management, communication, and problem-solving in a high-volume medical environment.

Position Summary The Ophthalmic Clinical Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership, oversight, and ongoing development of the ophthalmic technician department, including supervisors, trainers, and technicians across multiple office locations.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both operational management and clinical support expertise. The Ophthalmic Clinical Operations Manager works closely with physicians, leadership, Human Resources, and staff to maintain efficient clinic flow, support quality patient care, improve workflows, coach employees, and address operational challenges proactively.
The successful candidate must be able to lead confidently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and strong interpersonal communication.
While this role maintains clinical competency and may assist with patient care when operationally necessary, the primary responsibility of this position is leadership, operational oversight, staff development, accountability, and departmental performance. The Ophthalmic Clinical Operations Manager is expected to establish clear expectations, maintain operational consistency, manage performance proactively, and lead effectively in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
Provide strong, consistent leadership and accountability for supervisors and technicians across all clinic locations, ensuring performance expectations, operational standards, and patient care expectations are consistently met
Partner with physicians and leadership to identify operational improvements and support efficient patient flow
Assist with hiring, onboarding, employee development, and performance management in partnership with Human Resources
Maintain clinical competency and provide direct patient care support as needed
Drives operational execution and workflow consistency while identifying opportunities for improved efficiency and patient experience
Address and resolve operational issues, workflow concerns, patient complaints, and physician concerns in a timely and professional manner
Establishes and maintains clear performance expectations, operational standards, and accountability across all clinic locations
Support training initiatives and ensure consistency in technician performance and clinical standards
Coaches supervisors and technicians through performance concerns, workflow challenges, and professional development opportunities
Partners with Human Resources and leadership to address employee performance, attendance, behavioral concerns, and corrective action processes
Monitor staffing, scheduling, attendance, overtime, and departmental resource utilization
Travel routinely between office locations to support staff, assess workflow, and maintain operational consistency
Maintain knowledge of EMR documentation standards, HIPAA requirements, OSHA standards, and patient safety practices
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of medical management or supervisory experience required
Ophthalmology or retinal specialty experience strongly preferred
Experience as an ophthalmic technician, photographer, or clinical lead preferred
IJCAHPO certification or equivalent medical training strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
